The Macedonian Theater Festival “Vojdan Chernodrinski” was constituted in 1965 at the initiative of the Association of Dramatic Artists of the Republic of Macedonia. The festival is named after the founder of the Macedonian drama – Vojdan Chernodrinski, playwright, actor and director. Traditionally, it is held every year in the city of Prilep at the beginning of June.
The first performance of this renowned festival took place on June 4, 1965.
The Festival continuously presents the best theatrical / dramatic achievements of the entire Macedonian theater production based on works from the world drama and especially the Macedonian drama is affirmed.
The festival has a competitive character in the Official Program.
The festival is of special state interest and the only one of its kind funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia. Macedonia, the local self-government and donations and sponsorships.
The artistic director of the Festival is Katarina Kocevska. She follows the entire theatrical production and proposes a concept for the Official and Accompanying Program as well as the other contents of the Festival.
